It’s all about taking your time to let those flavors develop and get that perfect caramelization. 4 Hours slow cooking is key – it’s what gives you that deep, rich taste and smooth texture that makes it so good. The traditional way might be slower but man is it worth it once you taste it.

Step 1
Grate the Gula Melaka: Start by grating the block of Gula Melaka into small pieces. This can be tough because the block is hard, so be careful.

Step 2
Dissolve in Water: Adding it to a pot with a little water. Heat it up slowly while stirring to dissolve the sugar – make sure it doesn’t burn!

Step 3
Simmer and Thicken: Once the sugar dissolves, let it simmer on low heat while stirring. Keep an eye on it as it thickens up like syrup. Just requires patience and watchfulness.

Step 4
Cool and Store: Alright, take the pot off the heat and let the syrup cool down. Once it’s cooled, pour it into some containers. And make sure it cools evenly so no crystals form.
